Stockholm is built on 14 islands and mainland, among these is Södermalm/The South Island the city's largest and home for around 130 000 Stockholmers. Not so long ago, living conditions on Södermalm were extremely poor and many lived on the brink of starvation. Thankfully it is no longer like that, but has turned into on of Stockholm's trendiest.
It is not difficult to understand why, here people of all ages mingle to take part in the rich selection of small galleries, shops, bars and restaurants.
During this tour, the guide shows some of the places that are so excitingly depicted in Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy about Lisbeth Salander. The view are magnificent and the charm factor is great when you walk past the picturesque allotment houses, the many cafes and the many fathers on parental leave pulling prams and grocery bags along the cobbled streets.
When the time comes, a classic Swedish fika feels just right at one of the island many cafes.
