Guided walk of the Old Town (Gamla Stan) & City Center
When you vistit Stockholm a guided walk of the Old Town (Gamla Stan) is a must. The medival Old Town is among the biggest in Europe and an attraction itself with its many picturesque cobbled streets and squares, churches and Nobel palaces. The year 1252 is referred to as Stockholm's founding, but the island has been inhabited long before that. It was in this part of the city that both the terrible Stockholm bloodbath unfolded and the big fire of the Royal Palce named The Three Crowns took place.
Just a stone's throw away you find Stockholm's modern center around Sergels torg. A result of the future optimism and philosophy of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s - away with the old, forwared with the new and functionalist ideal. The contrast to the medieval Old Town could not be greater. During this three hour walk the guide will tell you more about Stockholm's interesting history.
